What was the significance of Dillinger's attempt to alter his fingerprints?  Well not much in reality.  This inside memorandum to Clyde Tolson from representatives of the FBI's Identification Division makes it clear that regardless of what Dillinger intended with any acid related treatments, he could not have prevented identification.
